Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg, Je T'aime... Moi, Non Plus

The iconic duo of the original agent provacateur/slick perv Serge Gainsbourg, and the doe-eyed eternal beauty of Jane Birkin are documented here in this 1969 essential album. Recorded as a series of duets and solo performances with Serge's lover (and actress/model) Birkin, the pair's chemistry-enhanced collaboration was first released to shock and horror over the overtly sexual overtones, but indeed found global success. The album's lead track is one of the most famously sensual songs ever recorded, turning on listeners, and even denounced by the Pope and banned by several countries at the time. The album also features a mix of lush arrangements, frolicking French Pop, and of course, loungy French cool. One of our favorite Gainsbourg track's "69 Anneé Érotique" is also included here- the airy bass-driven track clearly a blueprint for one of our other favorite bands, Stereolab.
